@Ocean22 The real reason every windows user hates using windows. Also fuck the wording they used to describe an update, I mean seriously fuck them youtu.be/C1z7ivSMwBQ?t=6m55s

@Ocean22 Yeah I've just got to the point where I just micro manage my task manager to kill all the stuff I don't want running

@RafiX @JibrilTheFlugel Not really ideal for a first timer that doesn't know how to configure stuff, also debian outdated as heck.

@Ocean22 @JibrilTheFlugel @RafiX the stable branch runs older software, but I think it's a good thing for its intended purpose. there are other branches if you want to keep up with the arches. ;-)
@Ocean22 @NHG @RafiX >reddit

but I digress: I rarely actually recommend my choice distro unless it seems to fit the bill. I think most people who recommend gentoo and arch have honestly forgotten what it is like to start anew with linux.

@awg @NHG @RafiX

Of course Arch is better than Ubuntu, it's a minimal install, it's just the shit you want. Computing the right way, but that install is gonna scare off any normal person in about 10 seconds.

@Ocean22 @awg @NHG @RafiX The most complicated part of the install is formatting the harddrive tbh. Everything else is just "pacstrap base". I guess most people are just scared by the fact that they have to use a terminal with no fancy colourful fallback :yuiShrug:

@sn0w @awg @NHG @RafiX

I only had problems with GRUB, connman and um
I didn't know how to use VIM
lelelel

@NHG @Ocean22 @RafiX @awg It's ok this thread is lost. We can post about anything in here now :rooYay:

@robots @RafiX @Ocean22 @NHG @sn0w and just when I was losing hope for this thread ... there is a god!
when-all-else-fails-catgirl.png…

@awg @robots @RafiX @NHG @sn0w

Not even the sweet angelic chocola can save this sinking ship, or get the thread to display properly

@awg @robots @RafiX @NHG @sn0w

This thread is like when you drink too much and you realize after how disgusted with yourself you are.

@NHG @Ocean22 @RafiX @robots @awg I bet Jibril muted every single one of us by now

@sn0w @NHG @RafiX @robots @awg

I know, it's sad, because they are really cool

@Ocean22 @sn0w @NHG @RafiX @robots @awg actually I'm surprised that you guys were so civil

recommending arch to a beginner tho made me laugh

@rice @Ocean22 @NHG @RafiX @robots @awg You'd be suprised how easy arch is once the installation is done. There's literally nothing that doesn't have a great explanation in the Arch Wiki 🤷

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

"can sn0w be my dad? "

only if sn0w is a man (human person with a Y chromosome)

that's not the same as manliness. that's a higher bar
