@b government meddling in private business is extensive. The overall effect is that businesses can hire at lower rates than they otherwise could. This has a range of effects; one is delaying automation.
Increasing minimum wage *cancels out* some of that meddling. Hacks atop hacks, certainly, but incrementalism is like that all the time.
