Rant of the morning: If I complain about a thing on my OS of choice, “switch to Linux!” is useless advice. I’ve used Linux for longer than many of the advice-givers have been alive, including many years on the desktop. I know what advantages it has. I also know what disadvantages it has, and you can safely assume that me not using it today is an informed decision. “Just switch to Linux!” doesn’t make me pause and consider it as though it were novel.
Grrr, had to get that out of my system.
@tek But have you tried IRIX?
@steevmi1 Actually, I’d always wanted to.
@tek There was something magical about IRIX desktops. Probably because in part I was just a user and never had to administer them, but still.
(I also badly miss Ultrix as well)
@steevmi1 I missed that whole era. Mac’s the only commercial Unix I’ve heavily used. A past job had me running a build farm with HP-UX, Solaris, and some other long-toothed things but I many just SSHed in and treated them like weird Linuxes for the purposes of getting them to run GCC.
