If you want to compete with Google or Facebook or other big companies, you need to understand that a) they are actually constrained by the law and b) the only computer bigger than their computer, is "everybody else's computer."
Radical decentralization + build software that has features the companies cannot offer for legal reasons.
We just have to be willing to go where the big companies can't. The more censorship there is of "normal" content, the more opportunities there are to do just that.
Ok so we have FOSS federated alternatives to Facebook (Diaspora/Hubzilla), Twitter (Mastodon), and Instagram (PixelFed WIP). So federated Snapchat when?
Me: My current distro is getting boring, maybe I should try a new one.
Me after remembering the last time I thought that: On second thought, let's not go to the land of distro hopping, 'tis a silly place.
Reclaiming RSS
“Before Twitter, before algorithmic timelines filtered our reality for us, before surveillance capitalism, there was RSS: Really Simple Syndication … As we move away from the centralised web to the peer web, it’s time to rediscover, re-embrace, and reclaim RSS.”
Beginning June 11, no more free API key for Google Maps (now Google Maps Platform) if you don't provide a credit card.
A lot of custom Google maps that have been created over the years will likely no longer work.
Time to use #leaflet and #openstreetmap

"What do feel you get out of your minor in electrical engineering?"
Me: "A constant sense of wonder at the fact everything is not currently on fire."
#ICE has shut down operations indefinitely due to "security concerns". No agents attempted to enter building today and have also cancelled appointments for tomorrow. The facility is non-operational. Other cities are raising their banners and organizing similar actions.
Trump's executive order is bullshit and any media source claiming otherwise is fucking lying

Hello!
My previous instance is no more. Here's my next shot at my Mastodon presence.
I'm a developer, I have contributed to some FLOSS projects, and since last week I work in a open source company.
From Twitter:
"How to sabotage ICE:
- Film them whenever possible
- Pour sugar on new cement to prevent it from setting
- Pour bleach in ICE vehicle gas tanks
- Knife those fucking ICE tires
- Put a potatoe way up in that exhaust pipe
- If you smash glass do it last"

For the record ICE vans tend to be white and have the DHS emblem on them somewhere, they don't necessarily say "ICE"
yeah Trump's bad but it's not just Trump it's the US. and the fact the big tech company you work for has sold tech to ICE but not for the Really Really Bad Stuff™ doesn't change anything. and yes i guess we're all complicit, sorta? but that doesn't mean we shouldn't call out the people literally turning the meat grinder's crank. all of that is self-preserving bootlicking.
If any artist wants to help me with Odysseus, there's a handful of icons I need not all of which are provided by the OS.
I require these to be 16x16 pixel monochromatic/"symbolic" status icons. A selection of them will display side-by-side for each webpage within Odysseus's addressbar.
