Breaking the silence / 1,000 Israeli Air Force Reservists demand end to the war on Gaza despite dismissal threats

Nearly 1,000 Israeli Air Force personnel have signed a letter demanding hostage return even if it means ending the war on Gaza [which the #ICJ is currently investigating as genocide]. The letter states the war now serves "political and personal interests, not security interests" and won't achieve its goals, instead causing more deaths of hostages, soldiers, and civilians.

The text reads:

A call to return all the kidnapped
Even at the price of a ceasefire!

We urge you to immediately stop the fighting, temporarily release the hostages and immediately start negotiations without preconditions for a comprehensive ceasefire. The goal of returning all the hostages must override any other goal according to the simple and most fundamental values of Israeli society, the #IDF and Judaism. A comprehensive exchange deal is the only way to bring about the immediate return of the hostages without endangering additional lives. Every day that passes endangers their lives. Any additional hostage's death is on our hands.

It's striking that they cite "Jewish values" when calling for hostage's return, yet make no explicit mention of the tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians their colleagues in active duty murdered in #Gaza so far.

"We stand shocked by this severe incident. The killing of rescue and medical personnel on duty constitutes a blatant violation of international laws of war, this is an act contrary to human morality," the letter states.

Evidence shows the victims were wearing identification uniforms in marked ambulances when killed. Some were allegedly executed after capture while handcuffed.

The letter highlights the systematic destruction of Gaza's healthcare system: "Many medical facilities have been damaged or destroyed... Gaza's healthcare system has been severely compromised for months."

Gaza's Health Ministry reports some bodies were found with hands tied in a mass grave, a claim the IDF denies. Though the IDF also initially claimed aid workers were traveling without emergency lights, but New York Times footage proved this false - showing ambulances with emergency lights and workers in fluorescent vests shot at close range.

IDF Chief Eyal Zamir has ordered an investigation, though no soldiers have faced prosecution for any potential war crimes since the genocide in Gaza began.
