I can only half-follow what @heidilifeldman is saying in this thread (IANAL), but this much is clear:

- There’s going to be a showdown over whether Congress still has the power of the purse, and over whether the Trump admin has to follow •any• court orders, ever — essentially, did the SCOTUS in fact make the president a king, or not?

- Roberts is trying to delay that confrontation as long as possible, pinging technicalities between courts and avoiding the substantive stuff.

- It’s probably not going to work.

- The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

- The judiciary, and our democracy, are hanging by a thread. mastodon.social/@heidilifeldma

MastodonHeidi Li Feldman (@heidilifeldman@mastodon.social)The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled, 5-4, on the Government’s request that it vacate the trial court order requiring it to resume USAID payments of amounts owing. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24a831_3135.pdf The SC has upheld the trial court. The opinion - majority and dissent - is notable. 1/ #LawFedi

@inthehands @heidilifeldman are you placing CJ Roberts in the "best" category here? Because... yikes

"The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity."

@pinsk
I was just going for the general vibe of the Yeats quote; best not to parse it too finely.
