I made a short video this morning to mark the anniversary of AW Neill’s first speech in the Parliament of Canada. March 16, 1922. Neill was a white supremacist and especially hated Japanese immigrants. He was a cheerleader not only for exclusion of Asian immigration, but their forced deportation including after internment in WWII.
Sound familiar?

This morning I found an exchange between him and Prime Minister Mackenzie King. It was on a trade treaty with Belgium, but Neill turned it into a debate about immigration.
Sound familiar?
I mark this day because we still honour this white supremacist with the name of a street in #PortAlberni
The school board removed his name from a school a few years ago — he was also an Indian Agent in charge of Indian Residential Schools in our area — but multiple city councils have not had the courage to do the same with the street.
