For folks, I've heard good things about the documentary No Other Land about a young Palestinian, Basel Adra, fighting his communities expulsion and along the way he meets and Israeli journalist. Playing at NW Film Forum starting this Thursday and a few other places around town.

Northwest Film ForumNo Other Land [In-Person Only] - Northwest Film ForumBasel Adra films his town being destroyed by Israel's occupation, and builds an unlikely alliance with an Israeli journalist who wants to join his fight.

Well, that was intense. It's a weird thing to "know" that these specific kinds of horrific things happen over and over in the occupation of Palestine. It is another to watch a person intentionally filming himself and what happens to his community. Almost entirely sold out screening at Northwest Film Forum and they've put on extra screenings tomorrow, still some next weekend and there are other theaters in town showing it. No regular distributor in the US was willing to carry it.

Many scenes are Basel & Yuval talking, usually at night, tired. Basel asks "when are we getting married". They both kind of laugh. Yuval asks if he wants children. A piercing question that hit me hard. I'm glad to learn Basel has married and has a one month old.

The New York Times · “No Other Land” Is the Oscar-Nominated Film That No Studio Will TouchBy Kyle Buchanan

One of the co-directors of Oscar award winning documentary No Other Land, Hamdan Ballal, was assaulted by Israeli settlers and then the Israeli military took him to a military base. His family and friends have no been able to communicate with him. If you live in the United States, you're helping to fund this.

@r343l I watched it at a film series in E. WA last night and it was pretty good. It was sold out and the organizers had a waiting list of people trying to get in. Apparently it’s been screened in fewer than 20 American cities as of last night.

@Canucklehead Given how this topic has played out politically especially the last 16 months, I imagine it took some work to get places willing to screen. There's a lot of pushback to any kind of critical media.
